Women in Theatre Centennial Celebration In honor of the centennial of the 19th Amendment, this virtual event produced and presented by Playbill will celebrate the contributions women of all colors and creeds have made to the theatrical landscape over the last 100 years. This one-night-only event will feature a diverse roster of Broadway stars and rising talent performing classic songs and new works and sharing stories of the inspirational women who used their powerful voices to inspire change on and offstage. Co-hosted by two beloved members of the Broadway community, “Women in Theatre: A Centennial Celebration” will commemorate the fight for gender equality while recognizing the battle that continues to this day. The event will be hosted by a pair of A-list Broadway talents to be confirmed, and the event will air as a benefit performance for an initiative that supports the progress of women in theatre.
Search For A Star Playbill Search for a Star presented by Geico is a national casting call for the next musical theatre star. As Broadway and theatres around the country take this intermission, we want to make use of this time by opening the doors to the audition room wide open. Contestants submit a self-tape audition singing the song of their choice. We invite performers of a range of ages (16 and up), all races, creeds, gender identities, sexual orientations, shapes, sizes, and backgrounds to submit. The Search for a Star contest is committed to widening the talent pool. All submissions will be judged by a panel of experts and industry professionals, brought to you by Playbill, The Growing Studio, and Stewart/Whitley. Each week, Playbill will post highlights from eligible entries, but at the end of the contest, only one will be crowned Playbill’s Next Musical Theatre Star.
Pride Spectacular On June 28, Playbill presented its Pride Spectacular concert in celebration of Pride and the culmination of the 2020 Pride Plays festival. The concert special featured iconic musical numbers that highlight LGBTQIA+ stories in musical theatre sung by members of the Broadway LGBTQIA+ community and its allies—as well as appearances from theatre greats. Watch highlights in the video above. Thanks to our presenting sponsors Gilead and Nissan, as well as featured sponsors Ketel One, Geico, and Audible, audiences tuned in to the complementary broadcast.
